A 12-year-old boy was fatally shot in Long Beach, while two teenage girls were also injured. The suspects fled the scene and the investigation is ongoing. The incident highlights the need for action to prevent gun violence in communities.

The community of Long Beach is reeling after a double shooting left a 12-year-old boy dead and two teenage girls injured. The incident occurred late Tuesday night near Lewis and Hill Streets, where the young victims were walking on the sidewalk. According to officials from the Long Beach Police Department, at least two suspects in a vehicle opened fire on the group, for reasons that remain unknown.

The family of Eric Gregory Brown, the young boy who lost his life, is devastated and has described him as being in “the wrong place at the wrong time.” Eric suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body and despite being taken to the hospital by the Long Beach Fire Department, he succumbed to his injuries.

The two girls, aged 13 and 14, also suffered injuries in the shooting. The 14-year-old girl was shot in the lower body and although her injury was non-life-threatening, she was taken to hospital for treatment. The 13-year-old girl was not injured.

The suspects fled the scene before the authorities arrived, leaving the community shaken. Neighbors in the area reported hearing a string of gunfire and were shocked to discover what had happened. Investigators are now conducting door-to-door interviews and canvassing home surveillance cameras in an effort to identify the suspects’ vehicle. At present, no description of the suspects is available.

The Long Beach community has rallied around Eric’s family, with a GoFundMe page set up to help with his funeral expenses. The tragic incident has once again highlighted the need for action to prevent gun violence and keep communities safe.
