Air New Zealand introduces world’s first economy class “SkyNest” with lie-flat beds for long-haul flights. Six “bed pods” will be installed on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, replacing five economy seats. The 58cm-wide and 200cm-long pods will have curtains, bedding, earplugs, USB charging ports, and ventilation outlets.
Passengers can reserve the pods for up to four hours at an estimated cost of $400 to $500. Air New Zealand CEO Greg Foran says the new innovation will be a “game changer” for long-haul travel. The SkyNest will debut in 2024.
