Armed Suspect in Santa Clarita Taken Into Custody Following Hours-Long Standoff

An armed suspect who barricaded himself in an SUV in Santa Clarita was taken into custody by authorities after a lengthy standoff. Homes in the area were evacuated as a precaution, and nearby streets remain closed as the investigation continues.

Residents of Santa Clarita were left on edge after an armed suspect barricaded himself in an SUV on Monday, prompting an hours-long standoff with deputies. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that the suspect had been holed up in a white vehicle on Newhouse Street in Canyon Country since around 6:30 a.m.

After several tense hours, authorities were able to take the suspect into custody just after noon. Streets in the area, including Delight Street and Whites Canyon Road, remain closed as the investigation continues.

Homes along the 19000 block of Newhouse Street were evacuated as a precaution, and evacuees were taken to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 19513 Drycliff Street. Nearby schools remained open, although there were additional deputies on site as a precaution.
