Carrie Fisher immortalized with Hollywood Walk of Fame Star on May the Fourth

Carrie Fisher's legacy in the Star Wars franchise was celebrated with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, on May the Fourth.

On a rainy day in Hollywood, fans of the late actress gathered to witness the unveiling of Carrie Fisher’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star. The ceremony was a fitting tribute to one of the most beloved figures in the Star Wars franchise, held on May the Fourth – a day dedicated to the film series.

Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, wore a metallic dress with her mother’s portrait printed on it, and accepted the star on Fisher’s behalf. Lourd reminisced about her mother’s legacy and how Fisher would joke that one is not famous until they become a Pez dispenser. Now with a star on the Walk of Fame, Fisher had achieved both milestones.

Mark Hamill, who played Fisher’s on-screen brother, Luke Skywalker, also attended the ceremony and spoke about the profound impact Fisher had on his life. He described Fisher as high-maintenance but ultimately an amazing friend.

Fisher’s star is located near those of her co-stars Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill, on the 6,800 block of Hollywood Boulevard. Fisher played the role of Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise, a character who transformed from a princess to a general in the fight against oppressive regimes.

Fisher was posthumously awarded the 2,754th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her co-stars, Ford and Hamill, were previously recognized with stars in 2003 and 2018, respectively.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame recognizes luminaries from various entertainment industries. The stars are awarded to performers who are nominated and a fee of $75,000 is required to create and maintain the star.

The unveiling ceremony was a bittersweet celebration of Fisher’s legacy and her influence on popular culture. The day was made even more special by the presence of fans dressed in Star Wars costumes and C-3PO and R2-D2. The force was truly with Fisher, and her star will serve as a permanent reminder of her contributions to the film industry.
