Diplo Runs LA Marathon While Under the Influence of LSD and Beats Oprah’s Time

Popular DJ and music producer Diplo ran the Los Angeles Marathon while on LSD and finished in under four hours, beating Oprah's time.

Over the weekend, Los Angeles was abuzz with the news that popular DJ and music producer Diplo had not only run the Los Angeles Marathon but had finished the race in just under four hours. What makes this feat even more impressive (and bizarre) is that Diplo claims he ran the race while under the influence of LSD.

The DJ took to social media on Wednesday to make the bizarre admission, explaining that the LA Marathon was the furthest he had ever run. “I did what any normal person would do and took LSD,” he wrote on social media.

Despite the psychedelic influence, Diplo finished the race in an impressive time of 3 hours and 55 minutes, even beating Oprah Winfrey’s old marathon time of 4 hours and 29 minutes. “Sorry Oprah,” he playfully wrote on social media.

If his claims of running while under the influence of psychedelics are true, Diplo would join Doc Ellis as athletes who claimed to have accomplished a major feat while on “acid.” Ellis, a Los Angeles native who died in 2008, threw a no-hitter with the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 12, 1970, and later claimed he took LSD hours before taking the mound that evening.

While Diplo’s claim may seem far-fetched, it’s clear that the DJ is proud of his accomplishment and unafraid to share his experience with his fans. His story is a reminder that there are many ways to push ourselves to our limits, and sometimes it takes a bit of outside-the-box thinking to achieve our goals.

Whether or not Diplo’s experience will inspire others to follow in his footsteps is yet to be seen, but one thing is for sure: he’s certainly given us something to talk about.
