Isaac Perlmutter, the former chairman of Marvel Entertainment who played a key role in growing the Marvel brand, has been fired by Walt Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009. Along with some Marvel Entertainment employees, Perlmutter has been let go and the company’s main business has been absorbed into Disney’s business unit.
While Marvel Studios is a separate entity, Perlmutter’s role in growing Marvel and his status as Disney’s largest individual shareholder made his dismissal a significant event.
Despite the success of Marvel, its influence has gradually declined and Perlmutter’s conflicts with Disney’s CEO and his support for former President Donald Trump are thought to have contributed to his departure.
