Fallen Soldier Returns Home: Sgt. Isaac John Gayo’s Somber Homecoming

Sgt. Isaac John Gayo's body returns to Southern California in a procession following the helicopter crash that killed him and eight others.

On Monday evening, the body of Sgt. Isaac John Gayo, 27, returned to Southern California, followed by a procession. Sgt. Gayo was among nine U.S. Army soldiers who died in a helicopter crash during a routine training operation in Kentucky in March 2023.

The other soldiers who died in the crash were Warrant Officer 1 Jeffery Barnes, Cpl. Emilie Marie Eve Bolanos, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Zachary Esparza, Staff Sgt. Joshua C. Gore, Warrant Officer 1 Aaron Healy, Staff Sgt. Taylor Mitchell, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Rusten Smith, and Sgt. David Solinas Jr.

The solemn event was attended by family, friends, and military personnel who gathered to pay their respects to the fallen soldier. The procession that followed was a tribute to the sacrifices that Sgt. Gayo and his fellow soldiers made in service to their country.

The loss of these brave men and women has left a deep void in the hearts of their loved ones, and the nation mourns their passing. We honor their service and sacrifice and offer our condolences to their families during this difficult time.
