(PRESSREELS) GFRIEND made a comeback on July 13th at 6 p.m. after releasing their new mini-album ‘回:Song of the Sirens’.
Shortly after the release of the song, “Apple,” the title track of “回:Song of the Sirens,” ranked No. 1 on Bugs, as well as on real-time charts on local music sites such as Genie Music and Melon. As of July 14 (as of 8 a.m.), it ranked second on Bugs and third on Genie Music, ranking at the top of the real-time charts.
In particular, Bugs and Genie Music proved to be a hot topic by entering the charts, including the title track “Apple,” “Time of Snow,” “The Room of the Mirror,” “Tarot Cards,” “Creme Brule,” and “The North Stair.”
According to Hanteo Chart, a record sales tally website on July 14, ‘回:Song of the Sirens’ sold a total of 42,867 copies on its first day of release. After the release of his previous film, “回:LABYRINTH,” the company is on the verge of breaking through its weekly sales (53,162 total).
Overseas responses are also encouraging. On the day of the comeback, GFRIEND showed off its global influence by ranking first and second in the real-time trend on Twitter worldwide with hashtags of “#GFRIEND_APPLEMV” and “#回_SOTS_Release.” The new album also topped iTunes ‘Top Albums’ charts in five countries and regions around the world.
The new song “Apple” is based on a trendy lead sound with retro, and is a pop genre song with exquisite blend of vocal chops reminiscent of Seren’s song. The lyrics include the image of the girl swaying in the whisper of temptation after her choice. Using the word “witch,” she expressed a woman who was honest and confident in her desire, not just being swayed by temptation.
GFRIEND perfectly performs a variety of choreography, ranging from colorful and dark makeup to catwalk that walks proudly, and apple tree dances in which six members stand in a row and express apples on branches using their arms and hands, showing an unconventional “clean witch.” The dreamy atmosphere of the song is added with fascinating eyes and facial expressions, giving a more unique charm.
The music video for “Apple,” released along with the song, depicts the process of six innocent girls turning into witches in a sense of ecstasy. She is receiving positive reviews for her bold visual changes that have never been seen before, as well as showing honest and confident women in her desires.
