High-speed train derails in Taiwan, leaving at least 50 dead and dozens injured

At least 50 people have died and dozens more injured after a train carrying almost 500 passengers derailed in Taiwan on Friday. The train, travelling at high speed, hit a truck that had slid down a bank and onto the tracks. This is Taiwan's worst rail disaster in decades.

Carlos Reales Dominguez, a former student at the University of California, Davis, has been arrested in connection with a series of stabbing attacks that left two people dead and one injured.

Dominguez was enrolled in his third year at the university up until last week when he was separated for academic reasons. The suspect was detained by police at a park where the second deadly attack occurred. He was found with a knife in his backpack.

The motive for the attacks has not been disclosed. The Davis community is now mourning the loss of the victims and seeking justice for their families.
