Ken Griffey Jr. Among Cincinnati Reds’ Highest-Paid Players in 2023

Ken Griffey Jr. is set to receive over $3.5M from Cincinnati Reds this year despite not playing since 2010, due to deferred payments in his contract.

Although retired since 2010, Ken Griffey Jr. remains on the Cincinnati Reds payroll, earning over $3.5M this year as the fourth highest-paid player. The Reds signed him in 2000 to a nine-year, $112.5M deal, and he receives deferred payment from 2009 to 2024.

Griffey was a three-time All-Star with the Reds and hit 210 home runs and 602 RBIs in 945 games with the team. He finished his career as a 13-time All-Star, one-time MVP and a 10-time Gold Glove winner, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016.
