Tragedy struck the Hill family in Corbin, Kentucky, when their 8-year-old son Eli passed away in a freak accident while playing basketball at home. Described as intuitive, compassionate, kind, and heartfelt, Eli’s family and friends have been left heartbroken by the loss of the young boy.

“He loved God and his church family,” said Ashley Hill, Eli’s mother. “Eli read his Bible, and his example encouraged his friends to read theirs, too.”

Eli was playing basketball in the driveway when the backboard and rim came down on him, causing blunt force trauma to his chest. The young boy was pronounced dead shortly after.

Since Eli’s passing, many have taken to social media to express their condolences, remembering him as an extraordinary child who loved playing basketball and baseball, riding his bike, eating popcorn, and video chatting with his friends.

In an act of kindness, Eli’s family has decided to donate his organs, including his heart, corneas, and lower extremity tissues, ensuring that his memories and legacy live on.

“He was intuitive, he thought deeply, he felt deeply. He worried about others. He wanted to be kind and good,” said Ashley. “We are comforted to know that he will live on in this way, and we are comforted to know this is his legacy. We knew Eli was loved, but we didn’t realize his impact. He was destined for greatness.”
