Landslide Halts Metrolink Service in San Clemente

A landslide near the Casa Romantica Cultural Center in San Clemente has caused commuter train service to be suspended in south Orange County.

Residents of San Clemente were left stranded on Thursday afternoon after a landslide near the Casa Romantica Cultural Center caused Metrolink service to be suspended. The landslide, which occurred at around 1:11 p.m., resulted in debris rolling down a hillside north of Metrolink’s San Clemente Pier Station.

According to Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson, the service was suspended south of the Laguna Niguel-Mission Viejo station. Passengers affected by the disruption will receive Uber vouchers of up to $50 to help them reach their final destination.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of the area, with many residents questioning the stability of the surrounding hillsides. While the landslide was described as slight, it serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of living in areas prone to natural disasters.

The Casa Romantica Cultural Center, which is located near the site of the landslide, is a popular attraction in the area and hosts a range of events throughout the year. The center’s staff have assured the public that they are working closely with authorities to ensure that the area is safe for visitors.

Metrolink has not yet announced when the service will resume, but commuters are advised to check the Metrolink website for updates.
