Angels' third baseman Anthony Rendon faces a five-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for an altercation with a fan during the team's Opening Day matchup against Oakland Athletics.

Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon has been suspended for five games and fined an undisclosed amount for an altercation with a fan during the team’s Opening Day matchup against the Oakland Athletics.

In a viral video posted on social media, Rendon is seen confronting a fan, grabbing his shirt through the guard rails and accusing the fan of shouting expletives at him.

The altercation ended with Rendon seemingly taking a swipe at the fan. Rendon is set to begin his suspension with the Angels’ game against the Seattle Mariners, but he plans to appeal the decision.

This is not Rendon’s first time missing games; he has played just 157 games in his first three seasons with the Angels.

Prior to joining the Angels, Rendon was a star player with the Washington Nationals, earning four top-10 finishes in National League MVP voting over seven seasons.
