Michael Jordan’s game-worn Air Jordan 13s from the 1998 NBA Finals sold for a record-breaking $2.2 million in an online auction by Sotheby’s.
The shoes, which Jordan gifted to a ball boy after the game, surpassed the previous record set by rapper Kanye West’s sneakers, which sold for $1.8 million in 2021. Jordan’s memorabilia continues to command high prices at auction, with a pair of his rookie season sneakers selling for $1.47 million in 2021 and his 1998 NBA Finals jersey selling for $1.1 million in September 2022.
Sotheby’s said the demand for Jordan’s items proves they appeal to a younger audience and help to grow their business.
