Purse Snatching Suspect Arrested After Altercation and Gunfire in Culver City

The Culver City Police Department has announced the arrest of a man captured on surveillance footage stealing a woman’s purse while she was dining at a local restaurant. The incident, which occurred near Culver Blvd. and Watseka Ave. on May 14, took a violent turn when the woman’s dining companion chased after the suspect, resulting in a fight and shots being fired.

The surveillance video, shared by the Culver City Police Department, shows the suspect snatching the woman’s purse while walking along the restaurant patio on the sidewalk. The woman’s companion reacted swiftly, pursuing the suspect. A physical altercation ensued between the two, leading to gunfire.

At the scene, a getaway car with two occupants was parked nearby. As the suspect and the victim’s companion fought, one of the individuals inside the vehicle fired a single round. The purse snatcher then entered the car and fled from the scene.

Thanks to the efforts of the police, the suspect was identified and apprehended a few days later. Although the suspect’s name has not been released, law enforcement revealed that he had a prior arrest for murder and was currently on parole for shooting at an occupied house. During a search of the suspect’s residence, officers discovered multiple pieces of evidence related to the crime.
