Simply Wholesome: A Family-Owned Business Serving Food and Wellness for Nearly 40 Years

Simply Wholesome is a half-restaurant, half-wellness store in LA’s Slauson neighborhood. It’s a family-owned business that has been serving the community for almost 40 years. Owner Purcell Keeling attributes their success to their famous curry chicken and jerk chicken patties, and they’ve even caught the attention of celebrities like Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill. Simply Wholesome serves as an incubator for small businesses and is committed to making a difference in the community.

Simply Wholesome has become a community institution in LA’s Slauson neighborhood. The business has been serving the area for almost four decades, offering a unique blend of food and wellness products.

Owner Purcell Keeling credits their success to their famous curry chicken and jerk chicken patties. “We have some of the best food in town. People come from all over to try it,” he said.

But Simply Wholesome is more than just a place to eat. Keeling and his family run the business as an incubator for small businesses, giving them a chance to showcase their products and services. “It’s kind of like an incubator. They’ve just given these smaller business individuals a chance to display their wares and their product where some of the big stores might not,” Keeling said.

Celebrities have also taken notice of Simply Wholesome. The restaurant was featured in the opening scenes of the Netflix movie “You People,” starring Eddie Murphy, Lauren London, and Jonah Hill. In honor of the late rapper Nipsey Hussle, Simply Wholesome created a secret menu item based on his favorite order.

For Keeling, Simply Wholesome is about more than just serving food and wellness products; it’s about making a difference in the community. “We’re not just a business, we’re a part of the community,” he said. “We want to make a difference, we want to do the right thing.”
