Hyundai has teamed up with Disney to release a special limited edition version of their popular electric vehicle, the IonIQ 5. The collaboration was formed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Disney.
At the 2023 New York Auto Show, Hyundai Motor America (HMA) revealed the “IonIQ 5 Disney100 Platinum Concept” vehicle, which features exterior and interior designs inspired by Disney. The IonIQ 5 Disney100 is the exclusive automotive sponsor for Disney100, a commemorative project celebrating Disney’s 100th anniversary in North America.
The car’s exterior is adorned with a matte Gravity Gold finish and its headlights and taillights feature Disney spark animations on a lamp screen. The wheels also have a new design created in partnership with Disney, with custom “hidden Mickey Mouse” details available.
The interior design of the car is also inspired by Disney, with visual elements reflecting Disney’s iconic characters and movies. The front headrests, center console, and floor mats all feature the Disney100 logo. Upon entering the car, the driver is greeted with Disney music and logos on the interior screen, as well as Disney’s iconic “pixie dust” and theme intro.
The limited edition version of the IonIQ 5 is expected to be released in limited quantities at the end of this year.
To make this collaboration happen, Disney opened up its subsidiary, Disney Imagineering, to Hyundai. Disney Imagineering is a research and development subsidiary comprised of experts in developing Disney theme parks and resorts, as well as creating Disney’s special effects.
Angela Zepeda, HMA’s Chief Marketing Officer, expressed her excitement for the collaboration, stating that “Hyundai is always looking for ways to be part of consumers’ journeys, and Disney granting access to its iconic characters to an automotive manufacturer for the first time is a historic moment. We hope this vehicle becomes an unforgettable experience for all Disney fans.”
