The Weeknd (33), a Canadian singer-songwriter, has achieved two new Guinness World Records, solidifying his place as the most popular artist in the world. According to Guinness World Records, as of March 20th, he holds the record for the most monthly streams on Spotify, with over 1.11 billion streams, and for reaching 1 billion streams in the fastest time by any artist. While Miley Cyrus sits at number two with 824 million streams, she falls short of The Weeknd’s over 300 million streams lead.
The top female artists in the list include Shakira, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, and Rihanna. British singer-songwriter, Ed Sheeran, is the top male artist after The Weeknd.
Guinness World Records noted that The Weeknd’s hit song “Die For You” featuring Ariana Grande in the remix version, released on March 13th, has greatly increased his streaming numbers. The original version of the song was first released in 2016 as part of his album “Starboy.”
The remix version of “Die For You” has also made a buzz on social media after Grande posted a video of them recording the song in the studio on TikTok.
Furthermore, the track has topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming The Weeknd’s seventh number one hit on the chart. With these new records, The Weeknd has secured his position as one of the most popular artists in the world.
