According to Lt. Matt Gard of the Lafayette police, the shooting was reported by an individual outside the apartment who called 911 after finding that the child was not breathing. The apartment had two children and one adult at the time of the incident. As of Wednesday morning, no arrests have been made, and the case is under investigation.

Once the investigation is concluded, the case will be sent to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office for review to determine if charges should be filed. Lafayette is situated approximately 60 miles (96 kilometers) north of Indianapolis.
