Gunman in Northside Hospital shooting arrested in Atlanta

Deion Patterson, the 24-year-old gunman who opened fire at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, has been arrested and charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one count of murder. One of the victims, identified as 38-year-old Amy St. Pierre, died in the shooting. Patterson was discharged from active duty by the Coast Guard earlier this year. His mother claimed he had some mental instability due to medication from the Veterans' Affairs Health System. The Atlanta Police Department and Cobb County Police Department held a joint press conference detailing the arrest and the role of technology in tracking Patterson.

Patterson was discharged from the Coast Guard in January 2023 and identified by surveillance video. A handgun was seized, and Patterson faces four counts of aggravated assault and one count of murder.

The suspect was apprehended without incident after an operator in Cobb County’s Real Time Crime Center tracked the 911 call made by the suspect to a specific location. Patterson’s mother has stated he had “some mental instability” due to medication from Veterans’ Affairs Health System.
