Q. You have released your new single, “Strawberry Kisses”! How do you feel right now? How have you been recently?
BÉBE YANA
So excited to get to show you guys the first song from BÉBE YANA. I’ve been working on a lot of new tracks lately and can’t wait to show everything what I’ve prepared.

Q. Strawberry Kisses tells a dreamlike story of sweet love. You wrote and composed the song, even took part in creative directing. Did you enjoy the process? How did you come up with the idea of the song and overall concept?
BÉBE YANA
Shout out to Nikki Webster! Bringing the early 2000 vibes into this project was the main theme. Had so much fun working with my visual directing team Ibaekilho. We’ve discussed a lot of things from the very beginning. Talking about the visual part, there’s more to show in the upcoming music video.
Q. The song seems to have elements of UK Garage, Hip-hop and pop. Have you been interested in these genres? What motivated and inspired you to create this type of music?
BÉBE YANA
I prefer blending different types of genre into one song and had this idea with my producer, GOLDBUUDA, why not making our version of UK garage. And here we are with ‘K-garage’!
Q. Lyrics are quite simple and catchy. Do you usually write lyrics in this style? How do you come up with your lyrics?
BÉBE YANA
Of course I focus on expressing my story and feeling, but I think the song that I provide should be relatable and easy for the listeners to listen. I try to create catchy phrases or sentences that people could remember easily.
Q. The song was produced by GOLDBUUDA, well-known for his experimental sound. Did you enjoy working with him? Does his experimental music accord with your musical spectrum?

BUUDA! With his experimental sound, it blended out well with my own style of song making. The main point of our collaboration was to make my original sound and Buuda’s original sound meet in the middle. We truly had so much fun working together the whole process was amazing.

Q. Your real name is Hayana, right? What a unique name! How did you get to change your name to BÉBE YANA? Is there any meaning or background story?
BÉBE YANA
Thank you! And you know, ‘B from the bay’(=BAYBEE) that’s where it came from. New name, new persona, you know what’s coming.
Q. What kind of persona or identity do you think you have, or aim to have as an artist?
BÉBE YANA
There will be various personas under the name BÉBE YANA. And for the song ‘Strawberry Kisses’, Strawberry Princess is here 🙂
Q. You are a versatile artist, considering your songwriting, violin, and English skills. How did you acquire these skills? Do you think these talents help you stay more creative as a singer?
BÉBE YANA
I want to thank my parents who have been providing the environment where I could experience a lot of things. It definitely helped me a lot to continue my artistry. Utilizing the strength that I have will be included in my music for sure.
