Multiple Injured in Shooting at Hollywood Beach Boardwalk, Florida

Nine people were shot and injured in a shooting incident at the Hollywood Beach boardwalk in Florida, causing panic among beachgoers.

Several people were shot at the Hollywood Oceanfront Broadwalk in Hollywood, Florida, on Memorial Day. The shooting took place around 6:30 p.m., between Johnson Street and Garfield Street. According to a police spokesperson, nine individuals sustained injuries in the incident. The gunshots sent people scrambling for cover, creating a chaotic scene on the crowded beach.

Law enforcement detained one person, and a search was underway for a second individual described as a Black man with dreadlocks, wearing a black short-sleeve shirt and camouflage shorts.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting was a result of an altercation between two groups. Videos shared on Twitter showed emergency medical crews attending to the injured victims. The victims, consisting of six adults and three children, were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Fortunately, all victims were reported to be in stable condition.

Eyewitnesses described the terrifying moment when gunshots rang out, with people seeking refuge and fleeing the area upon the instruction of law enforcement. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities have promised a significant police presence to aid in the investigation.

Hollywood Beach, located south of Fort Lauderdale and north of Miami, is a popular tourist destination. The Hollywood Oceanfront Broadwalk, spanning 2.2 miles, is a scenic promenade dotted with cafes and shops. The incident has prompted concerns over safety and security at the beach.
