Suspected Arsonist Detained After Setting Truck on Fire in Tujunga

Los Angeles Police Department detains a person believed to be responsible for a series of vehicle fires in Tujunga area.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has detained an individual believed to be responsible for a string of vehicle fires in the Sunland-Tujunga area. Collaborating with the LA City Fire department, investigators have been examining around two dozen incidents over the past couple of months, with an escalation observed over the weekend.

Over the weekend, fire personnel responded to two vehicle fires in the area. As they were attending another car fire on Haines Canyon Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, reports of another vehicle fire on Greeley Street and Pinewood Avenue emerged. LAPD detained a man on a bicycle in that vicinity, who was seemingly being followed after a car went up in flames on Haines.

Ring video footage captured the moment when the man stopped his bike, placed a bottle on a blue truck, set it on fire, and swiftly departed. This pattern matches other security videos obtained during previous coverage of the incidents.

Lydia Grant, a member of the Sunland Tujunga Neighborhood Council, expressed relief at the detention of the suspect, as the community has been actively working to stay informed and ensure their safety. Residents in the area hope that the apprehended individual is indeed the culprit and that the wave of fires will cease.

With concerns for public safety mounting, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) urges anyone with information regarding the recent fires to contact them at 213-893-9850 or via email at LAFDArson@lacity.org.
