Apple and Google have teamed up to address the issue of smart device tracking devices being misused for stalking. Samsung has also expressed support for this initiative.
The companies are developing an industry standard that would alert users if unauthorized tracking is detected on location-tracking devices like AirTags.
They plan to introduce this technology into their respective operating systems, iOS and Android, by the end of the year. The proposed standard was submitted to the Internet Engineering Task Force for review, and will be implemented after a three-month evaluation period. The move comes after reports of misuse of AirTags for stalking and theft.
