Astronomers have discovered that there is no atmosphere on the rocky exoplanet similar in size to Earth orbiting the TRAPPIST-1 star.
The study may reduce the number of potential habitable exoplanets, as the existence of life on such a planet without an atmosphere is less likely.
The TRAPPIST-1 planetary system is considered significant due to its proximity to Earth and the possibility of liquid water existing on some of its planets.
However, new findings show that the temperatures on the TRAPPIST-1b planet are much higher than expected, indicating a lack of thick atmosphere to retain heat.
