(PRESSREELS) Girl group BLACKPINK (Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, Lisa) has successfully surpassed 10 billion views on YouTube.
According to YG Entertainment on the 9th, BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel has accumulated more than 10 billion views. The most views of a single channel of Korean artists and the symbolic figure of “10 billion” is amazing. The record was made about four years after the BLACKPINK channel was opened on June 28, 2016.
The number of subscribers to BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel is also increasing rapidly. The number of subscribers surpassed 41 million on the same day, following 40 million just a week ago.
“It’s the sixth largest number of subscribers after Justin Bieber, Marshmello, Ed Sheeran, Eminem and Ariana Grande,” Billboard said. “BLACKPINK is the first non-English-speaking artist and the second female artist in the world to have more than 40 million subscribers.”
The number of YouTube content views and channel subscribers is one of the objective indicators of artists’ global popularity and recognition. Given that ‘channel subscription’ is an indicator of loyal fandom’s continued interest and expectations for future content, BLACKPINK’s record is noteworthy.
In fact, BLACKPINK’s record march on YouTube is unrivaled. The music video for “How You Like That” set a new world record for “the most views of YouTube videos in 24 hours of release” with 86.3 million views on the first day. In addition, it was officially listed on the Guinness World Records in a total of five categories: “Most views of YouTube’s music video in 24 hours of release” and “Most views of K-pop group’s music video in 24 hours of release.”
Also, “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” the title track of his first mini-album “SQUARE UP” in 2018. The music video has surpassed 1.2 billion views on YouTube. It was also the first K-pop group’s music video.
In addition, BLACKPINK has a total of six music videos with more than 500 million views, including “Kill This Love” (900 million views), “Bumbaya” (800 million views), “Like the Last,” “Playing with Fire” (500 million views), and “Whistle” (500 million views). Including music videos and choreography videos, it has a total of 19 billion-view videos, recording the most records for K-pop girl groups.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK released its pre-released title “How You Like That” on June 26, proving its global impact.
“How You Like That” has remained No. 1 on major domestic music charts such as Melon and Bugs for 14 days. Most notably, the song first entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at 33rd place and the British Official Singles Chart at 20th place, marking the highest ranking ever by a K-pop girl group.
