Hyundai’s luxury brand, Genesis, surprised attendees at the 2023 Seoul Mobility Show by unveiling the X Convertible, the third model in the X Concept Series and the brand’s first-ever convertible concept. The X Convertible was previously unveiled in Malibu, California, last year, and this new model is still in development, so detailed specifications have not been released yet.
The X Convertible features a hard-top moonroof that can provide an open-air feeling even when the car’s ceiling is closed, and the front of the car features Genesis’ signature design element, the crest grille, which is connected to two headlamps. The exterior color is inspired by a white crane, and the interior colors are inspired by the roofs of traditional Korean houses.
The X Convertible has a long hood, short overhangs, and a long wheelbase. The driver’s seat is designed with a unique display that wraps around the operator’s controls. According to Luke Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, the X Convertible will go into mass production later this year.
Peter Lancellotta, former chairman of the Genesis dealer advisory board, predicts that many Bentley Continental Convertible owners will trade in their cars and buy the X Convertible with the additional discount, as the X Convertible is expected to be a hit with luxury car buyers. If the X Convertible enters mass production, it will be Hyundai Motor Group’s first-ever open-top car.
