The website for purchasing the pass went live on the 1st of the month, but due to the unprecedented demand, the server crashed within hours, with over 3 million customers attempting to buy the ticket. The website remained down for several hours, with the rush of customers demonstrating the popularity of the initiative.
The pass, available for purchase through smartphone applications, is expected to promote more efficient use of public transport and better distribution of transport services. The German federal parliament had approved the initiative in March, with the transport minister explaining that the pass would improve the distribution of transport services across the country.
