The Hollywood film industry, which was hit directly by the Covid-19 outbreak, ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ gave a better-than-expected turnout in theaters.
CNBC reported on the 10th that ‘Godzilla vs. Kong,’ distributed by U.S. film production company Warner Bros., has surpassed $60 million in the U.S. box office, becoming the highest ticket sales since the Pandemic.
“Godzilla vs. Kong” is the final installment of Warner Bros., monster film series ‘Monster Bus,’ which features a clash between giant monster Godzilla and Kong. The film, which depicts a fight between two monsters filling the screen, is drawing attention as it plays a role in revitalizing the U.S. movie market, which was shrinking during the Corona pandemic.
The blockbuster films “Tennet” and “Wonder Woman 1984,” which were released in theaters last year, only earned $58.5 million and $46.2 million in ticket sales, respectively. However, “Godzilla vs. Kong,” which was released on the 31st of last month, surpassed the box office record of $60 million as of the 9th of this month.
With the opening of the two major U.S. movie markets, Los Angeles (LA), and New York’s theaters, due to the easing of the Covid-19 quarantine measures, the audience seems to be willing to visit the movie theater to watch the giant monster’s clash.
CNBC reported, ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ which suggests that consumers are eager to head to theaters to watch a new blockbuster movie and that American theaters can achieve similar success during the peak summer season.
As of last weekend, the number of movie theaters in North America stood at 3,000, the highest since the COVID-19.
