Q. You guys are back with Desert Eagle! How have you been?

Hanjoo

We have joined a new company, and we were preparing Desert Eagle. That was practically it.

Chunchu

We were busy working on our release and preparing songs…!

Woonghee

We were busy making videos and preparing our new song since it’s the first release after joining our new company.

Geonjay

I’ve been trying to stay healthy.

# about__DESERT EAGLE

Q. The instruments in the highlights for Desert Eagle are dynamic! I think the instruments are the most spectacular among Silica Gel’s music so far, which part did you pay the most attention to?

Hanjoo

I started as a guitar solo, so I focused on the sound. In terms of technology, I wanted to make everyone lose their mind and lose their balance as I reach the end of the song.

Chunchu

The guitar solo in the second half is a big factor, but about half of the song plays the same melody. I paid a lot of attention to connecting the sounds in one take without editing.

Woonghee

That’s why I remember I had a hard time recording. I struggled to support the guitar solo…

Geonjay

I think I paid most of my attention to electing language that would generate a lot of energy. 

Q. What specific message did you want to show through Desert Eagle?

Hanjoo

It’s cruel, but let’s try to keep living on, and we can be non-violence against each other. We can try. These are the messages.

Q. In the music video, the members are thieves and cross the desert chasing the flash. The music, lyrics, sound, and music video combines perfectly all in one. What does the ‘shining little sphere’ stand for and why are the people chasing it?

Woonghee

The ‘Shining little sphere’ is a treasure that the four thieves are trying to steal, and if you get to touch the sphere you can see a fantasy in front of your eyes. Our Music video director, Beak Yoon-Seok, and I have a slightly different point of view, but I thought it was fun because the symbol changes depending on the viewer. I’m curious about how your interpretations are!

Q. The response is hot as the listeners have waited for a long time. If you saw the comments on YouTube, was there any interesting comment? or comments that made you feel proud of yourself?

Chunchu

I don’t remember the exact word of the comment, but I remember that it was about Silica Gel is best at doing what they do without being conscious of the surroundings. Of course, we are not oblivious to our surroundings at all, but we try to compromise in order to get closest to what we think is perfection. When I read the comments from time to time, I feel proud of what we do! 

# about__Silica Gel and Behind Stories

Q. Silica Gels’ M/Vs are all very artistic. How do you discuss ideas when planning the M/V? Do you have any external elements inspired by ideas and visual production? Do you make plans together with the VJ you guys always work with? 

Hanjoo

There are a lot of things we imagine in abudance. Thankfully, the directors we work with maximizes those areas and we create great synergy. We have a lot of trust in the writers. There are a lot of things we want to show, and we have a team to make it happen. That’s all. 

Q. Silica Gel is known to be a band that focuses on Teamplay rather than Teamwork. But when you work together as a band, there are times you don’t agree with each other’s idea or get stuck with an idea. How do you find a breakthrough?

Chunchu

I don’t think it’s the only problem for the bands, as it is inevitable that the opinions of various people will be mixed unless you do all the work alone. Rather, because we are looking in the same direction under the name of a band, things don’t get slow to have to find a breakthrough. I think that conflicts arise depending on how well everyone understands the process of releasing music. Deadlocks are rare these days because Silica Gel and the staff all understand the process deeply.

Geonjay

Well, people are all different, so there may be different ideas from mine, but I think we are basically bond strongly with trust and depending on each other. So it’s not a discord usually. We are familiar with exploring something together, thinking that if there’s an issue or a particular opinion in the production process, there might be a good reason for it. Umm…from what I’ve written, I think it’s a little over the top, but Silica Gel and the staff are trying and studying to be smart all the time. Each person always tries to understand what to do and where to be, so I don’t think there’s been a problem. 

#about_Future and Plans

Q. You have recently joined Magic Strawberry Sound. It’s a new start for you guys. Do you have any plans for the next album? Can you give us a little spoiler?

Silica Gel

We don’t have an exact plan yet, but to give a slight spoiler, we talked about releasing an album with the availability of retouches and volume. We are planning to create fun things in the future with Magic Strawberry Sound.

Q. Are you planning to do a live performance after the Pandemic is over? Do you have any goals you want to achieve for a tour?

Hanjoo

Traveling memories remains the longest. As the situation is getting better, I want to draw a pleasant trajectory.

Chunchu

I want to go on a tour! If it wasn’t COVID19, I would really want to do a tour around the world. We originally had a plan to do that.

Woonghee

I really wanted to go on an Asian tour while taking a break from Silica Gel, so when the situation improves, I would like to do an Asian tour as soon as possible.

Geonjay

Rather than something flashy, I want to show a strong and structured performance.

Q. What kind of music do you think you will be doing after ten years?

Geonjay

Will the Earth exist in 10 years, or will I still be alive? Personally, I’m a person who thinks of yesterday, tomorrow, and more than that, today, so I can’t predict ten years from now! First of all, I hope that everyone will be able to work together in good health ten years from now. I love you guys and Magic Strawberry Sound family. Let’s be together for a long time.
