Samsung, the leader in the foldable phone market, may have reason to celebrate as a recent survey revealed that 3 in 10 Americans who use smartphones plan to choose a foldable phone for their next upgrade. This significant increase in preference for foldable phones is a positive development for Samsung, which currently dominates the market.
The United States market accounted for about one-third of global foldable phone sales last year, making it a crucial market for Samsung. As the trend towards foldable phones continues to grow, Samsung is expected to strengthen its position in the market.
According to a report by Counterpoint Research on April 5th, 28% of smartphone users in the United States are most likely to choose a foldable phone for their next upgrade. Furthermore, 16% of respondents indicated that they are somewhat likely to choose a foldable phone, bringing the total percentage of potential foldable phone buyers to 44%.
Samsung was the most preferred brand among potential buyers, with 46% of respondents indicating that they would choose a Samsung foldable phone. Apple followed closely behind with 39%, while Motorola trailed with only 6%. Interestingly, despite not having officially announced a foldable iPhone, Apple’s strong showing in the survey suggests that consumers have high expectations for a potential foldable iPhone.
Samsung’s strength in customer loyalty in the foldable phone market was also evident. Of those who had purchased Samsung’s foldable phones, including the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip, 92% said they would choose Samsung for their next foldable phone purchase.
When it came to preferred foldable phone types, flip phones were the most popular, accounting for 49% of respondents, followed by fold phones at 35%.
Since the launch of its first foldable phone, the Galaxy Fold, in 2019, Samsung has successfully established foldable phones as a unique form factor in the smartphone market. Despite the overall decline in the smartphone market last year, Samsung’s foldable phones continued to grow. As the market expands, Samsung will have to fend off fierce competition from Apple and Chinese manufacturers, but for now, Samsung remains at the top of the foldable phone market.
