The whole world is sending love calls to the Korean film industry. Director Park Chan-wook, who produced “Oldboy,” “Thirst,” and “The Handmaiden,” will produce a TV drama for Pulitzer Prize-winning literary film “The Sympathizer.”
Viet Thanh Nguyen, author of “The Sympathizer”, tweeted on April 7, “A24 and produced a TV drama for “The Sympathizer”.
Thrilled to finally announce that @A24 has optioned THE SYMPATHIZER for TV, with director Park Chan-wook, whose films include THE HANDMAIDEN. His OLDBOY was a big influence on THE SYMPATHIZER, and I can't imagine a better person to direct this TV adaptation with @rhombusmedia!

Park Chan-wook will be the director of the movie. “Oldboy has had a big impact on ‘The Sympathizer.’ I can’t imagine anyone better than that. “The Sympathizer” is a novel that follows an anonymous Vietnamese narrator who works as a communist double agent after immigration to the United States, and is also the first to win both the Edgar Award and the Pulitzer in the same year. Details such as the start of the TV series for “The Sympathizer,” the casting list, and the airing date have yet to be released.
