A 27-year-old man from San Dimas has been charged with vandalizing a church in Newport Beach, just days after being released from jail for a separate vandalism charge.

Nicolas Alexandro Briones was released on April 11 after pleading guilty to felony vandalism, and was sentenced to 60 days in jail and two years of formal probation for the March 10 crime.

On April 14, police responded to a call at Christ Church by the Sea and discovered that stained glass windows had been shattered. While investigators do not believe that the vandalism was a hate crime, Briones has been charged with one felony count of vandalism and one felony count of vandalism of religious property. The church has since resumed services after a group of volunteers came together to repair the damaged windows.
