Colombian Latin pop star Shakira has sold the entire music catalog to the Hipgnosis Songs Fund. On Wednesday, the London based-song management company revealed the acquisition of Shakira’s 145-song catalog.
The three-time Grammy Award winner has sold more than 80 million albums including “Hips Don’t Lie”, “Wherever, Wherever”, “Underneath Your Clothes”, and 2010 FIFA World Cup song “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)” and has strong followers on music streaming platforms, Spotify and Youtube.
Merck Mercuriadis, a founder of Hipgnosis, called her “Queen of Latin Music” and cheered Shakira’s contract. He said, “What no one should ever take for granted is that Shakira is one of the most serious and successful writers of the last 25 years, having written or co-written virtually every song she has ever recorded,” of her musical career and its value on SNS.
The professional investment firm has signed contracts with Niel Young, former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and producer Jimmy Iovine this year.
Due to the prolonged pandemic, it seems that the flow of cashing their songs is getting stronger because the singers can not guarantee the performance income recently.
