Taiwan’s TSMC, the world’s largest semiconductor consignment producer, will set up a high-tech semiconductor plant in Arizona, the U.S.
This is because TSMC is lobbying China’s Huawei to prevent the U.S. from passing regulations that require it to go through U.S. approval if it sells semiconductors produced according to the U.S.-designed semiconductor production process.
If the new regulations are passed, the Commerce Department will be able to ban TSMC from exporting semiconductors to China’s Huawei, which it defines as a major U.S. security threat.
