We have seen that the Android TV platform has taken a lot of momentum in recent times thanks to the recent deluge of new Android TVs. Now, one of the biggest markets globally, the Indian market, is seeing tremendous demand in this segment which has prompted everyone to release new Android TVs.
The likes of Xiaomi who started it all last year and then manufacturers like Motorola, OnePlus, Samsung and others have joined the party. Now, it is time that Google takes note of the Android TV platform as well. As a part of this, it has been reported that the Android TV platform will get its latest Android 10 update this year.
Now, you would know that the Android 10 update on Google Pixel smartphones was already released last month. However, there was no word regarding the same for Android TV as it was kind of neglected. But now that the platform has taken a rise in user base, Google has started to work on it once again. 9to5Google reports that “Google plans to deliver the Android 10 update for Android TV towards the end of 2019”.
The report also mentions that Google is looking to release new hardware for its Android TV next year which might be an Android TV or just a TV box such as the Mi Box we saw previously. Also, we are pleased to see that Google is committed to releasing the Android 10 update by end of this year. Because Google previously said that it is not important to keep TV updates on the “same timeline” as smartphone updates referring to Android OS.
The same report also reveals that hardware launch is set to take place in 2020 but they are not sure if it is regarding “consumer devices like the Nvidia Shield TV or operator devices”. However, there is a new policy which is bad news for Android TV users. Google now requires OEMs to give just two major platform updates instead of three from previous policy.
