(PRESSREELS) Group BTS topped the U.S. charts for the first half of this year with ‘MAP OF THE SOUL : 7’.
According to Nielsen Music’s first-half 2020 report released on the 10th, BTS’s fourth full-length album “MAP OF THE SOUL: 7” has topped the list of “Top 10 Albums-Total Sales” with sales of a total of 552,000 copies.
Nielsen Music’s first half of 2020 report analyzes music-related figures and trends, including sales of physical albums, digital downloads and audio streaming in the U.S., which were compiled from Jan. 3 to July 2, 2020.
The “Top 10 Albums-Total Sales” chart, in which BTS topped the list, combines actual album sales such as CDs, LPs, and cassettes with digital album downloads. In particular, BTS ranked first in the Top 10 Physical Albums, which only counts actual album sales, with a record of 528,000 copies.
In addition to album sales, “MAP OF THE SOUL: 7” ranked ninth on the “Top 10 Albums” chart, which adds up the number of streams and downloads, with 842,000 copies, and second on the “Top 5 Genre Artists,” which aggregates sales of real albums, digital downloads and audio streaming in the pop sector.
Billboard, a U.S. music media outlet, also noted the performance of BTS based on Nielsen Music’s first-half report.
“The MAP OF THE SOUL: 7′ is the most-selling album in the U.S. in the first half of 2020 and the only one with more than 500,000 copies sold,” Billboard said on Thursday. “MAP OF THE SOUL: 7′ represents 96% of the total sales of real albums, and 4% is digital album sales.”
“In the first half of this year, BTS sold 757,000 copies in the U.S., including CDs, LPs, and cassettes, and in all forms of albums, including digital album downloads, with 720,000 copies sold in the U.S., the largest number of albums sold,” Billboard also explained.
