V, a member of the group BTS, swept the top of the iTunes “Top Song” chart, rewriting the all-time record for K-pop solo songs.
V topped the iTunes “Top Song” chart in 88 countries and regions around the world with his first OST Sweet Night that participated in writing, composing and producing lyrics, surpassing Psy‘s 86-nation record for Gangnam Style in eight years.
As of May 25 (8:40 a.m.) V’s Sweet Night added Levanon, Malta, Laos, Spain, Armenia and Latvia to the top countries, ranking first in 88 countries, setting the record for most K-pop solo songs ever.
The No. 1 record in 86 countries on the iTunes “Top Song” chart, set in 2012 by Psy, was an unbreakable wall for eight years. It is more meaningful that V’s record this time was achieved solely by the sound source.
Sweet Night, released in March, is the first K-pop artist to win the top spot on iTunes’ Top Song Chart in the U.S. and the U.K., as well as topping iTunes’ Top Song Chart in 88 countries including France, Canada, Italy and Australia.
The #HistroyMakerV hashtag, which was trending by global fans in celebration of V‘s record, added to the festive mood as it ranked No. 1 in Korea’s real-time trend and No. 2 in the world’s real-time trend.
