In a recently published analysis by the Korea Corporate Reputation Research Institute, Newjeans has secured the coveted #1 position in the idol group brand reputation rankings for March 2023. The institute extracted and analyzed a massive amount of big data, including 93,302,459 pieces of information related to idol group brands between February 23 and March 23, 2023.
To determine the idol group brand reputation, the institute used a composite metric that considered various factors such as participation index, media index, communication index, and community index. These indices reflect consumers’ perception of idol group brands, media coverage, and community engagement.
In March 2023, the institute analyzed 6.66% less big data on idol group brands compared to January, but it was still sufficient to rank over 30 idol groups. The brand reputation index of each group was calculated based on the analysis of big data, qualitative evaluations from brand reputation monitors, and consumer behavior.

Newjeans, a five-member group consisting of Minji, Hani, Daniel, Haerin, and Hyerin, achieved a brand participation index of 1,073,492, a media index of 1,968,227, a communication index of 1,851,210, and a community index of 2,256,265, resulting in a brand reputation index of 7,149,194. Although the brand reputation index of Newjeans decreased by 23.94% compared to January, it still managed to top the rankings for March 2023.
BTS, one of the biggest names in the idol group industry, landed in the second spot with a brand reputation index of 6,858,394. The group’s participation index was 635,824, while their media index was 1,169,532. Their communication index and community index were 1,988,192 and 3,064,846, respectively.
The emergence of Newjeans in the top spot indicates that the idol group industry is constantly evolving, and new groups are challenging established ones. It will be interesting to see if Newjeans can maintain its top spot in the coming months.
