Samsung Electronics has announced the start of a collaboration between its Samsung Pay and Naver Pay services, beginning on March 23rd. The partnership will provide users with an even stronger online and offline payment experience.
Initially, Samsung Pay’s online payment experience will be enhanced, allowing Samsung Pay users to use the service to make easy payments through Naver Pay’s online order-form merchants, including Naver Smart Store and over 550,000 other online merchants.
In addition, Naver Pay’s offline payment experience is expected to begin later this month. Naver Pay users will be able to use Samsung Pay’s MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) payment method to make offline payments at all Samsung Pay-enabled offline merchants across the country.
With the recent launch of Apple Pay, Samsung is stepping up its defense by intensifying its efforts to compete with Apple’s popular mobile payment service. Previously, Samsung Pay had been the leading mobile payment service in Korea, with more than 11 million users.
As reported, Apple Pay launched in Korea on March 22nd, allowing users to pay with their Apple devices at offline merchants and online stores. Customers who hold credit or debit cards issued by partner companies, including Hyundai Card, can use the service both domestically and internationally.
