(PRESSREELS) Taylor Swift’s surprise eighth full-length album “Folkler” has become the best-selling album in the U.S. this year.
Billboard announced on the 2nd (local time) that Swift’s “Folkler” will make its debut as No. 1 on the latest Billboard 200, the main album chart, with 846,000 copies sold in the first week of its release.
“Folklower,” which was released on the 24th of last month in Korean time by Taylor Swift while working on its own price, has created various topics in the pop world.
It released 16 songs at the same time without a pre-released single, and there was little pre-promotion, with the release plan announced in a surprise move about 16 hours ago. It is also noteworthy that Swift attempted to transform his music with a contemplative fork tendency.
The first week of sales is the highest since Taylor Swift’s seventh full-length album “Rover” (867,000 copies) released in August last year.
Billboard ranks albums by combining traditional album sales, SEA (SEA) that translates streaming times into album sales, and TA (TEA) that translates digital music downloads into album sales. According to Billboard, sales of the traditional album “Folkler” came to 615,000 copies, 218,000 copies of the SEA and 13,000 copies of the TEA.
Prior to “Folkler,” the number one album sold in the U.S. this year (based on traditional sales) was BTS “Map of the Soul: 7” (574,000 copies) released in February.
Taylor Swift has so far debuted seven albums on the Billboard 200 chart, including “Folkler.” It is the highest record for a female artist.
