1/ You are the creator of the first worldwide A&R Talent Scout Training Program. Where did this idea come from?
I’ve been training scouts for major labels for many years. When I was a scout starting out, there was no training for me, and I wanted to create a way to train A&R talent.
2/ To whom this A&R Talent Scout program is intended? Who can take part in it and how to become a participant?
The program is for those with an interest in A&R, but the training can prepare anyone looking to pursue a career in music management, marketing, publicity, publishing, starting their own label, and more.
3/ GREATERTHAN app is the place where your Talent Scouts share their reports for brands, labels, music producers. Can you tell us more about GREATERTHAN app?
GREATERTHAN is a discovery app delivered in culture magazine format. It is the new home for creatives, including today’s hottest emerging artists, innovators, entrepreneurs and startups, and creative culturists — filled with a curated content balance that matches interests in order to connect creatives globally. 4/ What kind of personality traits should a good A&R have? Can anyone be an A&R Talent Scout?
It’s not so much personality traits as it is that they need to be immersed in culture and be able to identify emerging talent.
5/ What should a good A&R look for? Is music the most important in A&R hunt?
Talent that can connect with a growing audience is the most important thing.
6/ You’re working as an A&R for many years. How A&R’s work has changed in recent years?
I have been working in A&R Research and talent discovery my entire career. Developing a competitive advantage in emerging talent discovery is what I do, and my new venture is now leading the charge in A&R Innovation. Now the problem that the music industry has right now is that everybody’s fishing from the same pond. If everybody has the same exact data, they’re all looking at the same thing.
