Mother in North Korea May Face Jail Time for Leaving Behind Pictures of Dictators During a House Fire

A woman is facing possible jail time in North Korea for leaving behind pictures of Kim Jong Ill and pictures of the country’s previous leaders in a house fire.

According to The Daily Mail, she saved her children first, but unfortunately, it got her into trouble.

The unnamed mother is currently being investigated by the Ministry of State Security.

According to the details gathered by the publication, the fire first broke out in their home in Onsong County, North Hamgyong Province. There were reportedly two families living there.

It was also said that the parents were not home when the fire started but they immediately went to get their children once their heard about what happened.

The fire destroyed pictures of Kim’s family, the current dictator, as the parents’ focus was saving their children out of the burning house instead of saving the photos.

Right now, the mother is facing charges for negligence to save their leaders’ pictures.

The mother may have saved her children, but wasn’t able to save Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il’s photos. She was later brought to the authorities to be questioned.

In another report by Daily NK, the only news publication that is allowed to cover the news in North Korea, the mother is facing jail time for not being able to properly care for her injured children who suffered burns during the fire.

Currently, they are in the hospital and in need of medical attention, however, she does not have enough money to pay for the bills and medicine.

The publication reported that neighbors of their family wanted to donate money for the hospitalization but are afraid to do so because they are afraid authorities will charge them with political offenses.

All households in North Korean are required to display pictures of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il. The country required this to make sure that everyone followed their order, even sometimes sending inspectors to check random houses.

According to their law, citizens should treat the photos as if they are living humans, or else, they will be charged of crimes if they fail to take good of the pictures.

If incase the unnamed mother is found guilty for the fire incident, she’ll be sentenced to prison for a long time and would have to endure hard labor.
