On Thursday night, Grammy-nominated rapper DaBaby was arrested and questioned by the Miami authority regarding a robbery investigation.
He was then arrested after they have learned about his warrant out of Texas from a battery charge.
The spokesperson for the Miami Police Department has yet to confirm anything because the investigation is still-going in connection with the robbery case.
According to a report from TMZ, the crew of the rapper jumped and robbed a man.
He was set to perform and reportedly promised DaBaby $30,000 by the promoters for Café Iguana Pines, but they allegedly gave only $20,000.
After counting the money, the rapper began demanding the rest of the money, and there was a verbal altercation.
There came a physical fight between DaBaby and one of the promoters. The others with him then attacked the promoter. An iPhone 7, a credit card, and $80 were stolen from one of the promoters. One of them even said that one of the offenders spilled apple juice on him.
The promoter left his hotel room, fearing for his safety. Later that night, when the rapper returned to the hotel, the two victims identified him to the authorities, and an arrest report was made.
He was taken into custody when the promoters positively identified him, but the rapper “denied his involvement in the incident.”
The battery charge was set at $1,500, and he is expected to appear before a judge on Friday, January 3.
Jonathan Kirk, the real name of DaBaby, is said to remain arrested and in the custody until further notice, the spokesperson said. Also, he was known to be in a run-in with North Carolina authorities with the law enforcement there.
Just on the eve of Christmas, DaBaby was also handcuffed in Charlotte for possession of marijuana, and earlier during that day, the was out giving gifts to the underprivileged children in the same area.
Following that, DaBaby was blasting the police department for searching the rapper’s car and for the resisting arrest. He was telling the reporters that he has his video of what happened, doing “everything but resisting the arrest.”
There was a press release on the Facebook profile of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and mentioned that the rapper arrived on December 23 for a concert, and upon entering the Bojangles Arena, the authorities who were in charge of the security said they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle he just came from. They waited for his concert to be done, but he refused to talk to them.
According to the press release, “Officers stated they detained Kirk in handcuffs and indicated they legally searched the vehicle. Officers stated they located marijuana in the vehicle, and Kirk was transported to another location for the safety and security of Kirk and the officers.”
The department said that there would be an internal investigation to know if the officers followed their protocol.
DaBaby is nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2020 for the best rap performance and best rap song. His song “Suge” is the acclaimed nominated song for the two Grammys.
