Senate Takes Procedural Vote on Stimulus Bill; Fails to Move Forward

The coronavirus stimulus bill failed on Sunday night during a session in the Senate as some negotiations needed more plans.

This bill would cost more than $1 Trillion aid package. The next voting schedule will be on Monday after noontime.

The Republicans didn’t win over the Democrats.

They needed 60 votes so they can move on the stimulus bill.

This means that there will be no aid going to the economy, which means no checks for individuals, help on small businesses, and a bailout for large corporations until they settle everything.

The Democrats were not satisfied with the worker protection bill, which was made by the Republicans and said that corporate bailout rules are not too strong. According to President Trump, “We’ll see what happens. I think we’ll get there. We have to help the worker. We have to save the companies.”

A Republican, McConnel, was blaming the Democrats. “All of a sudden, the Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer, and the speaker of the House [Nancy Pelosi shows up, and we’re back to square one.” He added, “So we’re fiddling here, fiddling with the emotions of the American people, fiddling with the markets, fiddling with our health care. The American people expect us to act tomorrow. And I want everybody to fully understand if we aren’t able to act [Monday], it’ll be because of our colleagues on the other side continuing to dicker when the country expects us to come together and address this problem.”

It will be known by Monday if the Democrats will have some change of heart.

Schumer, on the other hand, is going to have a meeting with Treasury
Secretary, Mnuchin. Schumer mentioned on Sunday, “Early this morning (Sunday), Leader McConnell presented to us a highly partisan bill written exclusively by Republicans, and he said he would call a vote to proceed to it today. So, who is being partisan? He knows darn well for this bill to pass it needs both Democratic and Republican support.”

He also added, Given more time, I believe we could reach a point where the legislation is close enough to what the nation needs for all senators, all senators to want to move forward. We are not yet at that point.”

Before his meeting, he was already expecting that a bill should prioritize the workers first before the corporations.

Also, on Sunday, Pelosi said she has her own package to propose and that they are still at the talk with the Republican leaders.

The Democrats are more worried that the bill doesn’t have more provisions from people being evicted, properties foreclose, or forbearance and that unemployment insurance would allow only up to 3 months.

Although House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said that he doesn’t believe in Pelosi’s proposal. He said that there is no time for that and would do the country a lot of damage.

Mnuchin, on the other hand, says, “We still think we have an overall understanding, and we’re going to try to get this on paper.”
