When Keanu Reeves officially was known to have a new girlfriend, many of the women out there got brokenhearted. Alexandra Grant, an artist, explained.
Why she didn’t want to dye her gray hair.
In her Instagram, Grant shared a Newsweek article about a study that shows using permanent hair dyes and chemical straightens can result in a higher risk of developing breast cancer as compared to women who don’t use these products.
In the caption, “Wow. Today’s news…” She continued “The numbers are staggering especially for womxn of color”. She explained “I went gray prematurely in my early 20’s… and dyed my hair every color along the way until I couldn’t tolerate the toxicity of the dyes anymore,” Grant went on to explain. “In my 30’s I let my hair turn ‘blonde.’”
In conclusion, Grant said, “I love and support that every Womxn can choose how she wants to look at every age. But/and, if womxn are perishing from beauty standards… then let’s talk about those beauty standards. Love to all Womxn!”
Many of her fans praised her for sharing her post. So far, there are 2,700 likes as of the writing.
(For those of you wondering, womxn was not a typographical error, but according to Wikipedia, the term Womxn is an alternative term for the English language word women which have been regularly in use since 2015 to include transgender women and women of color explicitly.
It has been used similarly as womyn and wimmin, as a rejection of the folk etymology of ‘woman’ allegedly being ‘of man.’)
Her previous post on Instagram was a throwback picture from 1991 when she was still a brunette with a bunch of college friends. Grant made a joke with her hair changes and captioned, “What would I tell my 18-year-old self now? (You’ll be a ‘blonde’ in your 30’s? You’ll give up math for art?),” she wrote.
In November, Reeves and Grant were seen together holding hand in hand on the red carpet for the LACMA Art + Film Gala. The actor was wearing an all-black suit and brown shoes while Grant word a long midnight blue gown with a deep V-neck and glittering flats.
According to a source from Just Jared, “Keanu wants to open his life with her. He is delighted and grateful to have Alex in his life”.
The couple has known each other for several years already. She worked with him for his 2011 book Ode to Happiness. She provided the illustrations and was her first artist book.
The following year, they worked as partners in X Artists’ Books, a publishing house that focuses more on the quality and prefers artist-centered books.
