The fried chicken sandwich wars aren’t over yet because McDonalds is about to join in the commotion too. The crispy chicken sandwich is new on the menu for this golden arch.
It is made of fried chicken filet with butter on and sliced pickles on a potato roll.
It also is putting on the menu a deluxe version of the said sandwich. This time, it will have tomatoes, lettuce, and mayo in the bun. Two cities have become testing centers for these two sandwiches. They are Knoxville, Tennessee, and Houston, Texas. They are available now until the 26th of January next year.
The news about the latest chicken sandwich was tweeted “Houston. Knoxville. Lunch tomorrow? No beef and followed with a more specific reply. Our two new delicious chicken sandwiches!”.
The fast-food added “The Crispy Sandwich is topped with butter and crinkle-cut dill pickles while the Deluxe is topped with tomatoes, lettuce, and mayo. Both served on a tasty buttery potato roll.”
This chain has already a McChicken available, but yet it didn’t fill up to the taste expectation of their customers. It doesn’t give a lot of excitement to the palate as compared to the rivals Popeyes and Chick-fil-A.
Through this new recipe of fried chicken sandwich, the giant fast-food joint is expecting that they would be able to lure more customers.
These chicken sandwiches have been known to be a booster to these customers of fast-food chains.
Popeyes, owned by Restaurant Brands International, offered its fried chicken sandwich this summer and unbelievably was sold out after two weeks of its launch.
They brought it back in fall and once more have made long queues of customers and even have become a trending buzz in the social media. Popeye’s helped its same-store sales increase by 10% during the last quarter.
Whereas Chick-fil-A has steady growth, the chain added 1000 joints all over the country. It tripled its sales for the last ten years and now has a total of 1,989 stand-alone restaurants and 363 licensed units (located in nontraditional stadium, amusement park, university locations, and the likes). This company garnered the 5th spot in terms of restaurant chains’ annual revenues, next to McDonald’s. McDonald’s has around 14,000 restaurants in the US.
The board of National Owners Association, a group of McDonald’s franchisees that was formed in 2018, communicated, “A favorite, that our customers want, is a chicken sandwich. Unfortunately, they have to go to Chick-fil-A for it.”
The letter added Chick-fil-A’s results demonstrate the power of chicken. Yes, we have great Chicken McNuggets, and our McChicken is an excellent product. But we do not compete in the premium chicken sandwich category, either grilled or crispy”.
They felt that this is a significant threat and that this chicken sandwich should be a priority. Because of the plea, McDonalds reinvented a more southern-like chicken sandwich. In October, they announced, “we are inspired by the customer demand for premium chicken sandwich and are working closely with our franchisees to deliver what our customers want. Stay tuned.”
